Work in progress: Fingerless gloves

Here's my latest knitting project. First I made this prototype and I decided that it looked too much like a cast or one of those wrist guards that roller bladers and snowboarders wear. Poo!

After a lot of helpful advice I changed the center braid to something a little more delicate and extended the palm and I created this one:

I like it a lot better, but I think I need to do a different cast off method. This one is a bit tight. Also I think I'm going to add a thumb to the finished version.

Today was a good day.

It didn't start out that way. I had plans to get up earlier and make breakfast for Matt but I completely over slept and woke up feeling kinda blue. But the day got better after that. Matt and I decided to take an afternoon bike ride to the park (yay!) and I checked the mail on the way out. I got 2 packages (double yay!). One was from a girl in DC who sent me a cloth case for my knitting needles and the other was a b-day gift from my Aunt Robin. She sent me 2 books: Through Painted Deserts, by Donald Miller and Firstlight by Sue Monk Kidd. I can't wait to read the Miller book, it's about a cross country road trip in a VW camper van - the same thing that Matt and I did this summer! Thanks Robin!!

The bike ride was really great. We rode to a park on the green belt, with autumn leaves crunching under our tires. One of the things I love best about Davis is all the parks. It seems like there's one on every block!

When we got home I finished up my first week of doing a drawing a day. It's something I saw that this wonderful artist did. I started with simple fruits and vegetables, something really familiar to me.

Welcome to my new blog!

I have been inspired by all the fantastic crafty blogs out there and I will be using this space to show off my handmade creations. This week I made these earrings for a Craftster birthday swap for this crafty lady.
